Landslide blocks Shimla-Hatkoti road

The Shimla-Hatkoti road was blocked near Nihari following a landslide triggered by rain on Sunday. Several apple-laden trucks were stranded on the route.

The police have diverted the traffic from Shimla via Tahu and Narkanda. Light vehicles have been diverted through Tahu while heavy vehicle will use the Narkanda route.

Moderate to heavy intermittent rain lashed several parts of the state, leading to a fall in the maximum temperatures. The minimum temperatures stayed close to normal. Rain also triggered landslides at some places and disrupted power supply in Shimla.

The state recorded 669.4 mm of rain against the normal of 698.4 mm from June 1 to August 31, which is only 4 per cent less. Seven of 12 districts received excess rain ranging between 11 per cent (Mandi) and 31 per cent (Una) while the remaining five districts had deficit rain ranging between -3 per cent (Solan) and - 61 per cent (Lahaul and Spiti). Chamba and Kinnaur districts received 51 per cent and 48 per cent deficit rain.

Palampur in Kangra and Rampur in Shimla recorded 65 mm and 64 mm rain.

This was followed by Mehre 59 mm, Naina Devi 53 mm, Sarahan 47 mm, Ghamroor 38 mm, Pandoh and Una 34 mm each mm, Pachhad and Rajgarh 30 mm each, Kotkhai 26 mm, Dharamsala 23 mm, Sundernagar 21 mm, Nadaun 20 mm, Shimla 18 mm, Baijnath and Baghi 17 mm, Kharapatthar 16 mm, Chhaila 14 mm, Theog, Jubbar Hatti and Mandi 13 mm, Kumarsein and Fagu 12 mm, Manali 11 mm, Bharari 9 mm, Kufri and Sunni Bhajji 8 mm and Pandoh 7 mm.

The local MeT office has warned of heavy rain at some places and forecast rain and thundershowers in lower and mid hills and rain or snow in higher hills from September 3 to 8.
