Justice Chaudhary appointed acting CJ

After the elevation of Chief Justice V Ramasubramanian as Judge of the Supreme Court, the President has appointed Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, seniormost judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, as the acting Chief Justice. A notification has been issued by the Union Ministry of Law & Justice.
It said, “The President is pleased to appoint Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, seniormost judge of the High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice from the date Justice Ramasubramanian relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice consequent upon his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court.”
This is the second time Justice Chaudhary is appointed the acting Chief Justice. Earlier, he remained the acting Chief Justice from May 24, 2019, to June 21, 2019.
Justice Chaudhary belongs to Lohara village, Mandi. He obtained a degree in law from HP University, Shimla. He practised in the High Court in civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, company and service matters. Thereafter, he was appointed as Additional District and Sessions Judge on 1, August, 1995.
He elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court on January 21, 2012, and, thereafter, appointed as permanent judge of the High Court on January 18, 2014.
