Founder’s day of Lawrence School
The 172nd founder’s day celebrations commenced with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Lawrence School, Sanawar. A vocal rendition of Gandhi’s favourite “Ram Dhun” was presented by the school choir. The headmaster, Vinay Pande, highlighted the importance of non-violence, unconditional love, purity, honesty and optimism. An essay writing competition on the topic “If I were Gandhi” was held. Jaiveer Singh and Seerat Sandhu bagged the first two positions. A chapel service was conducted for the alumni, who had graduated 25, 50, 60 and 65 years ago. This year, the batches of 1994, 1969, 1959 and 1954, who are celebrating their silver, golden, diamond and blue-sapphire jubilees, respectively, were the special invitees. The old students shared their experiences and fond memories of school.
St Bede’s students honoured
Students and staff of St Bede’s College were honoured by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur for their poly brick initiative and voluntary participation in spreading awareness about ‘Swachhta’ through street plays. Certificates were given for the same during a function organised by the Shimla Municipal Corporation on The Ridge to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Students of Government Senior Secondary School, Dhalli, launched the ‘Plastic Hatao Abhiyan’, in which over 100 students participated.
Cultural events mark Gandhi Jayanti
Shivalik International Convent School, Nangal Chowk, celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was a great follower of truth and non-violence. MD Malkiat Singh Rana motivated students to serve society. He said: “Due to Gandhi’s selfless effort and initiatives, he is still alive in our hearts.” On the occasion, the students presented cultural activities. Meanwhile, DAV Public Senior Secondary School, Bharoli, organised various activities and competitions to celebrate the day. Students of classes IX to XII participated in a cleanliness drive and cleaned the school campus. Principal Surjeet Kumar Rana motivated the students to be sensitive toward the environment.
Fit India run by MCM-DAV
Fit India Plodding Run was organised by MCM-DAV Senior Secondary Public School, Baghni (Nurpur), to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Students and teachers took out a rally, urging the people not to throw garbage in the open. They highlighted the importance of staying fit and keeping the environment clean and green. Principal MR Rana motivated the students to participate in such awareness programmes.
