A Baddi trader was brutally killed by three to four men who first attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and then ran him over by a car at Chakka village near Baddi on Sunday night.
Dispute arose over a piece of land where Harjinder Pal, 54, was undertaking a construction.
The accused, including Ramesh Kumar, who runs cable business in Baddi, managed to flee from the area and the police are yet to nab them.
Locals gathered in strength against the killing and raised slogans on Sai Road. They pressed for the arrest of the accused and saying that despite being sounded the police failed to arrive in time.
Baddi DSP Khajana Ram said police teams had cordoned off the area and search was on to arrest the accused.
The son of the main accused Ramesh Kumar has been detained.
The deceased is a cousin of former Congress MLA Ramkumar Choudhary, who said three to four men led by local Ramesh Kumar attacked Pal and inflicted about 10 wounds on his head with sharp-edged weapons, then chopped off an arm and a leg and also tried to run him over by a car.
Two local youths who worked in a nearby farm tried to rescue him, in vain.
