Dehra campus to start three new courses in yoga, fine arts

The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) will start three new courses in its two departments on the Dehra campus from the new academic session. Vice-Chancellor Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri said the University Grants Commission (UGC) had approved a one-year diploma in yoga up to the post-graduation level, BFA (painting) and BFA (sculptures) from the new academic session year.

Joint research on financial liberalisation

A joint research titled “Financial liberalisation and channels of growth: A comparative study of developed and emerging economies” by Prof HR Sharma, Pro-VC, CUHP, and Dr Archi Bhatia,  a PhD scholar and Assistant Professor in the department of economics, University of Delhi, has been published in “Indian Economic Review” — one of South Asia’s most respected scholarly publications in economics. In the detailed comparative study covering all aspects of financial liberalisation, the authors have mentioned that “emerging economies should move in the direction of liberalising capital and equity markets which will increase the real PCGDP in these economies by 0.5- to 2 per cent per annum. The benefits of banking liberalisation can be tapped by hard-pressing banking reforms and by imparting financial literacy and financial capability to the masses. 

Faculty development programme

The School of Education, CUHP, organised a seven-day faculty development programme on Gandhian philosophy of Nai Talim, experiential learning, work education and community engagement. Vice-Chancellor Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri was the chief guest and Chairman, HPBOSE,  Dr Suresh Soni  was the special guest. As many as 30 persons from across the country attended the programme. Dr Soni underlined the importance of distinguishing the western model from the indigenous education system. 

Awareness camps 

The NSS  unit of the CUHP  organised  three awareness camps  on substance abuse. The programmes were sponsored by the National Institute of Social Defence. 

Awareness programme

A two-day programme on substance abuse was organised at the university. Prof KC Agnihotri, VC, and Prof HR Sharma, Pro VC, inaugurated the event. The objective of the workshop was  to impart activity- based learning skills to social workers and NSS scholars. Dr Ashish Nag, Assistant Professor and in charge for the NSS, said two similar programmes were held at Government Degree College, Dharamsala, and Sai Educare Vidya Pratisthan Khalui, Dharamsala. As many as 450 youths participated in the three camps. 

Youth leadership training programme 

The department of social work, CUHP, in collaboration  with the department of youth services and sports   organised a five-day youth leadership training programme. As many as 58  youths participated in the programme.
