Classical dance performance
A spectacular classical dance performance was held at Dayanand School, Shimla. Artistes performed Bharatnatyam and Odissi dances, which were liked by students and staff of the school. The event was organised by the Pratsipandan Society of Himachal Pradesh University. The artistes not only gave impressive performances, but also gave the students relevant information about the items.
Science seminar at St Bede’s College
The science faculty of St Bede’s College in Shimla to mark the 150th anniversary of the periodic table and to celebrate the International Year of Periodic Table-2019 held a one-day seminar on “Patterns in Nature and Discoveries in Science”on Friday. As many as 350 science students attended the event. In the first technical session, a movie based on the development of the periodic table - The Mystery of Matter: Unruly Elements — was shown to the students, followed by an on-the-spot quiz on elements of matter. In the second session, Prof PK Ahluwalia (retd) delivered a talk on the topic “From Elements to Materials: An Edifice on the Foundation of Periodic Table”. Another talk on “Plant Diversity and its Conservation” was delivered by Prof MK Seth (retd).
Speech day at Auckland House School
The junior section speech day of Auckland House School was held. Children performed dances, plays and action songs. Musical “Cinderella” by the girls of Form II and UKG enthralled the audience. The girls of Form I presented a Hindi play “Lakh Ki Nakh” which focused on corruption and bribery. The children made their parents proud by displaying their talent in dancing, acting and singing. A brief report of the school was given by the director-principal S John, highlighting the achievements of the students. The programme came to an end with the distribution of prizes.
Hindi Divas celebrated at DAV-Mandi
DAV Centenary Public School, Jawaharnagar, Mandi, celebrated Hindi Divas as part of the Hindi Fortnight. During the fortnight, various activities like Hindi essay, poetry, story writing, debate, singing and dancing were held. The chief guest on the occasion was KA Guleria, principal. Head of the Hindi Department Sharmila Bhardwaj and another teacher Sunil Kumar highlighted the importance of the language. The principal exhorted the students to be equally proficient in English and Hindi.
Protest march by NSUI at HPU
NSUI activists on Friday held a protest march at Himachal Pradesh University to resent its poor functioning. Campus general secretary Rajat Bhardwaj said the HPU had put the students in trouble by declaring incomplete results of first year undergraduate exams at a time when students were preparing for the second year mid-term examination.
ICDEOL extends date
The International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL) has extended the date for applying for graduate and postgraduate courses till September 22. Disclosing this, director, ICDEOL, Dr Kulwant Pathania said the admission portal would be closed after September 22. He added that the extended date would not apply to MBA and BEd courses.
