The Mandi district administration is gearing up to develop the Indira market on the lines of a modern shopping complex.
In a shambles at present, the market requires immediate maintenance. In the heart of the town, the two-storey shopping complex has a clock tower at the centre. The park around the tower is popular among locals as well tourists.
Though the Municipal Council and the district administration constructed new toilets equipped with modern facilities, the old unkempt toilets in another corner of the complex are a blot on its beauty.
Besides handling the drainage problem, the district administration is planning to provide basic amenities in the complex. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Rugved Thakur convened a meeting with MC officials and business associations of the market to prepare a roadmap for the market.
It was decided that the market would be equipped with CCTV cameras and arrangements would be made to keep the area clean.
Talking to The Tribune, Thakur said: “A roadmap has been prepared. The entire area will be covered with beautiful wall paintings. Gates decorated with proper lighting will be erected at the entry points. CCTV cameras will be installed at key locations to keep an eye on the movement of offenders round the clock.”
