The 20th death anniversary of Captain Vikram Batra was observed in his hometown here today. A number of functions in his memory were held at different places.

Events were held at Captain Vikram Batra Degree College, local army cantonment and other places to remember the braveheart.

Captain Batra was posthumously awarded Param Vir Chakra on January 26, 2000. He is the last soldier to have been honoured with India’s highest military honor.

His towering legacy of selflessness and fearlessness continues to serve as an inspiration for the young people who aspire to join the Indian Army.

  • Many Army cantts and edifices bear his name. A hall at Service Selection Centre Allahabad is named 'Vikram Batra Block', a residential area in the Jabalpur Cantonment is called 'Captain Vikram Batra Enclave' and the combined cadet's mess at the Indian Military Academy is named 'Vikram Batra Mess'.
