Campaigning against candidates can be seen on social media platforms, such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

The most popular cartoon, which have surfaced in the virtual world, is that of Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia and former minister Rana Gurjeet Singh in which they are seen sitting in sand-filled trucks.

In the cartoon, Laddi is shown asking Capt Amarinder Singh to help while the Mehatpur SHO is following his truck.

A video showing the SHO attacking Capt Amarinder Singh is also being circulated through various WhatsApp groups. Clips of the SHO checking into a hotel around midnight ahead of lodging the FIR have also surfaced.

Social media users say, “Almost same things happened in the Gurdaspur bypoll when videos against SAD and BJP leaders had surfaced ahead of the elections and these were widely circulated.”

In all these messages, solution to the problems has taken a backseat in the bypoll.
