Traffic cops get first-aid training
KARNAL: The Traffic and Highways Police, Haryana, with the help of Cygnus hospital organised two-day first-aid training for traffic and patrolling policemen at Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, on July 25 and 26. Yogendra Nehra, IG Karnal Range; and Raj Shri Singh, IG Traffic and Highways; jointly inaugurated the event. They highlighted the importance of the first hour after the accident and said that it was the duty of the policemen, who are the first to deal accident victims, to save the lives of the victims.
Increase greenery, say retd officers
Karnal: To increase green cover in the city, retired officers took the initiative and planted saplings of perennial, fruit, medicinal and seasonal plants at Atal Park, sector-8. Sujan Singh (98), a retired Navy officer; VN Rai, former Director, National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad, and former DG, Law and Order, Haryana; his wife Nina Rai; RN Vasudeva, retired Inspector General of Police; his wife Prem Vasudeva, and other prominent senior citizens planted saplings and encouraged people to come forward to save the environment.
‘Row’ over plantation
Faridabad: An awkward situation arose during plantation work at a park of B Block of sector 11 here due to opposition from some residents. They complained that the work was being done without their involvement as they had not been invited. The event was attended by Industries and Environment Minister Vipul Goel. The disgruntled residents of the block asked the minister as to who would take care of the plants as the members of the local RWA had not been invited and it had been staged by some outsiders. Goel said that plantation was in the interest of all and there was no space for complaints on this matter. About 100 saplings were planted on the occasion.
Cycle rally on Hepatitis Day
Rohtak: Members of the Rohtak Cycling Club took out a cycle rally to mark World Hepatitis Day and create awareness about the life-threatening disease. The participants observed a two-minute silence in the memory of Kargil martyrs. Rohtak Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Birla and Capt Dayaram Shukla, a senior member of the club, delivered talks on hepatitis and the Kargil war, respectively. A Health Department team visited Kharawar village to create awareness about hepatitis.
War memorial to be raised
Sonepat: In the memory of Kargil martyrs, a war memorial will be raised on the premises of the DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal, and two best NCC cadets – a girl and a boy — of the university will be honoured every year on Kargil Vijay Diwas. This was announced by Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajindera Kumar Anayath while celebrating Kargil Vijay Diwas in the university recently. As many as six martyrs in the Kargil war were from Sonepat district, the VC said.
