Though Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh has failed to get the BJP ticket for his daughter Aarti Rao, the third generation of his family has entered the poll fray with Rao Arjun Singh filing his nomination as the Congress candidate from Ateli in Mahendragarh district.
Arjun is the nephew of Rao Inderjit and son of his younger brother Rao Ajit Singh. Also, Chiranjeev Rao, grandson of three-time MLA Rao Abhay Singh and son of former minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, is also making his debut. He is the Congress nominee from Rewari.
Naresh Chauhan, political analyst, said: “The entry of third generation of two political families into electoral politics is not a surprise as dynastic politics has been a feature of Ahirwal’s landscape. Chiranjeev and Arjun are locked in a tough contest with BJP candidates.”
Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Parsad Yadav’s son-in-law Chiranjeev has served as president of the Haryana Youth Congress. At present, he is the national secretary of the Indian Youth Congress. He campaigned for his father Capt Yadav in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Earlier, he was elected MLA from Rewari six times.
Arjun’s grandfather Rao Birender Singh was the second Chief Minister of Haryana in 1967. He also served as Union Minister and Assembly Speaker. Birender’s elder son Inderjit was elected MLA four times and MP five times. His son Rao Yaduvendra was a two-time MLA. Arjun’s father Rao Ajit Singh also contested several Assembly elections, but failed to register a win.
