Samalkha SDM Gaurav Kumar today visited Rahimpur Kheri village and listened to grievances of the residents. He gave a boat and 20 life jackets to the villagers.

The Tribune had highlighted the problems of the villagers yesterday. The village is located on an island in the middle of the Yamuna and residents are forced to use rubber tubes to cross the swollen river in the absence of boats.

The SDM said an action plan would be prepared for development of the village.

The SDM along with revenue officials visited Rahimpur Kheri, Mirjapur and Goiela Kalan villages after crossing the Yamuna in a boat.

Lakhi Ram Goswami and Prem Singh, both residents of the village, said that they were living in the village for the past 30 years. They said the land of their village was very fertile, but they were not given power connections as the area was declared dark zone. “The water level in our village is at 10 feet and during summers, it does not go down beyond 15 feet,” they said.

Villagers said that a ring dam should be constructed in the village and demanded connectivity to the adjoining Mirzapur village.

The villagers said that they had to send their children to a village in Uttar Pradesh for studies. They demanded that a primary school, a veterinary and other hospital should be constructed in the village.

Chander Shekhar Khare, DC, said the SDM was sent to listen to the problems of the residents of Rahimpur Kheri. A detailed action plan for development of the village would be prepared on the basis of the report of the SDM. “A boat and life jackets have been provided to the villagers today,” he said.
