Fungicide, bacterial leaf blight, sheath rot, stem rot and brown spot have been detected in paddy fields in Yamunanagar district.
According to information, symptoms of brown spot have been found in the fields of Harpal Singh, a resident of Sudhal village, besides the surrounding area of about 15 acres. However, the disease was in its initial stage.
Similarly, fields of farmer Kunta Devi, a resident of Jubbal village, have also been found effected with sheath blight and bacterial leaf blight. A team of the Agriculture Department consisting of Dr Jasvinder Singh, assistant plant protection officer, Yamunanagar, and Dr Rakesh Kumar Jangra, quality control inspector, Yamunanagar, visited the effected fields today.
“There are chances of fungal diseases such as bacterial leaf blight, sheath rot, stem rot and brown spot due to which the foliage of the crop begins to dry, leading to fall in crop yield,” said Jangra.
He added nowadays, the prevailing environmental conditions, including high temperature with high humidity, were favourable for fungal growth.
“Farmers are advised to be vigilant these days. If they find symptoms of any disease, they may contact the agriculture development officer concerned or to the department office along with samples,” he said.
He added fungicides such as validamycin could be sprayed in the affected fields. He advised farmers to use sprays during evening hours.
About 79,000 hectares are under paddy cultivation in Yamunanagar district.
