Chandigarh, September 6
The Municipal Corporation, Karnal, has issued notices to 12 advertising firms and recovered a fine of about Rs 35,000 from them for displaying advertisements on roads without permission.
A spokesman for the corporation said today displaying such advertisements in an unauthorised manner was considered violation of Section 3 of the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989.
He said action against these firms had been taken under Sections 121 and 122 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, and the drive would continue against the erring firms. He said a team of the Municipal Corporation visited the city along with a tractor-trailer on a daily basis and removed the advertisements displayed in violation of norms. Besides, notices were issued to the advertisers.
He said more than 100 such advertising agencies or firms had so far been issued notices. Those who had not given reply to the notices would be penalised, he said.
The corporation had also invited tenders for hiring an additional tractor-trailer. The tenders would be opened on September 13, he said.
Giving details about the Haryana Municipal Corporation bylaws, he said for displaying advertisements, all traders, land-building owners, institutions and shopkeepers would be required to get themselves registered with the Municipal Corporation. The registration would be valid for six years.
He said appeal had been made to traders or businessmen of Karnal to not display advertisements on public places without prior permission.
