A new variety of oats — HFO 427 — developed at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) has been identified for release in southern parts of the country.

Vice-Chancellor KP Singh on Thursday said the new variety was better in yield and nutritional quality. The Varietal Identification Committee of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) had identified this variety for cultivation in the southern states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, he said.
The variety has been developed by a team of scientists of the forage section of the university, which comprised DS Phogat and Yogesh Jindal, in collaboration with Satpal and Jayanti Tokas.
