Vaishali Singh of Faridabad has made the city and the state proud by securing the 8th rank in the country in the UPSC exam.
“I am very happy. My father has been the motivating force behind the success,” said Vaishali, a resident of Sector 9 here. Jogender Singh, her father, is a lawyer.
Vaishali, an alumnus of DPS here, did five-year integrated BA-LLB course from National Law University, New Delhi, where she was a gold medallist. It was her second attempt at the civil services. “I could not clear the prelims in my first attempt as I did not prepare well, but I was sure to clear it in my second attempt,” said the 26-year-old. She said she studied for over 10 hours daily. Besides her father, she thanks her mother Suman Singh, also a lawyer, and RK Gupta, a joint secretary in the Central Government.
Pankaj Lamba (25), another local resident, has got the 236th rank. It was his second attempt. Son of an RPF Inspector, Pankaj claims he lost by a small margin in the interview round in the first attempt. “I may go for the third attempt this year to get the IAS cadre,” he said. He credits his success to hard work and the guidance provided by Karam Gill of Nirvana Academy in New Delhi.
Around 10 candidates from the state have made it to the civil services this year.
