‘Around the country in 15 days’
Rohtak: Sounds unbelievable, but a doctor from the PGIMS claims to have cycled from Jammu to Kanyakumari. Dr Rohit Dahiya (27) of Sonepat’s Pipli village says he traversed more than 3,400 km in 15 days, 13 hours and 30 minutes, which, he claims, is a new record. He started his cycling expedition from Jammu on November 23. On the way to Kanyakumari, he travelled to Kathua, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Agra, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Nagpur, Selam, Dindigul, Madurai and Tirunelveli. On his return, Dr Dahiya was felicitated by the authorities of the University of Health Sciences and the PGIMS.
Cop shows way in honesty
Sonepat: Rajiv, a constable in the traffic police here, has set an example of honesty by returning a bag containing Rs 3,000, an ATM card, an Aadhaar card, an identity card, a bank passbook and other documents to its owner, Bhateri Devi of Adarsh Nagar in Gohana. Rajiv was deployed on the old DC road in the town when he noticed a bag on the road. From the documents, he established the identity of the owner and called her. Bhateri came to Sonepat the next day to take back the bag and thanked Rajiv.
Honour for DC, former DGP
Sonepat: Former DGP Laik Ram Dabas and Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang were honoured with Sonepat Ratan and Person of the Year Award 2017 by Women and Child Development Minister Kavita Jain at a programme organised by Sarthi Jan Sewa Charitable Trust recently. Justice Raj Rahul Garg was honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award. Others awardees were Mimansha Malik (journalism), Kumar Vishu Bhatnagar (singing), BK Garg (education), Usha Morwal (sports), Suresh Kumar Mittal (religion), Devender Sura (environment protection), Arun Bhardwaj (legal service), Manoj Rai and Pramod Vashishat (social service) and Prakash Malik (Haryanavi film).
Rally for women’s empowerment
Kaithal: District and Sessions Judge MM Dhonchak has said it is important to empower women to create a strong nation and society. He was addressing mediapersons after launching a rally organised by the District Legal Services Authority to create awareness on bridging the gap between rights of men and women. Several schoolchildren participated in the rally. Students raised ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogans and carried placards in support of women.
Reliving magic of Mohammad Rafi
Ambala: To commemorate the 93rd birth anniversary of the legendary singer, Mohammad Rafi nite was organised by the Ambala Musical Club in association with the Haryana Kala Parishad. Organised in Ambala for the first time, the event at the SD College auditorium was a hit. Club chairman Naveen Gulati said around 20 singers from the region rendered the great singer’s songs.
‘Radha Raas’, ‘Dream Girl’ style
Ambala: Veteran actor Hema Malini performed a classical dance displaying “Radha Raas” at SD College in Ambala Cantonment recently. She performed on the concluding ceremony of a two-day Divya Aadhyatmik Mahotsav organised by the Prabhu Prem Sangh. Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, who was the chief guest, said: “The guidance of saints is necessary for world peace. Haryana is the centre of spirituality, sacrifice and dedication.”
