Expert tip
Designer Ritu Kochar, corporate head, NIFT, shares her view, “Plus size women should wear darker colours like black and dark blue because they help in hiding problem areas like belly and arms, whereas light colours and pastel shades highlight the problem area. Adding layers to your outfit gives a flowing effect and cheats the eyes of the viewers! Layers can be added by wearing a shrug or a drape on the top, which would camouflage the problem areas.”
So, most of the designers nowadays also focus on layering for their outfits. She adds, “People with broad neck should avoid tight-neck or high-neck dresses; ruffles and frills on the top should also be avoided. Tight dresses and nylons should not be worn by plus size women as it hugs the figure and brings out those love handles and curves. A dress should be figure-covering and not figure-hugging.”
Size doesn’t matter
Ishita, a customer, says, “I prefer wearing tunics, and shirts with mega sleeves. Cut-sleeves are a big no for me because of my heavy arms. I prefer clothes with floral prints and dark colours, which make me look good.”
Priyanka, another customer shares, “Size doesn’t matter to me. I wear what complements my size. I mostly prefer Western wear, like long dresses and denim shirts.”
