A glimpse into folk theatre

With the aim to regale Tricity audience with some prominent folk theatre forms, the Chandigarh Sangeet Nataki Akademi has teamed up with the National Sangeet Natak Akademi to hold a three-day Traditional Folk Theatre festival from December 18 onwards at the Tagore Theatre, Sector 18. Here is the itinerary.

December 18: Nautanki - Babu ji

Parivartan Samooh, Gwalior

Based on a story by Mithileshwar, the play Babu ji had been adapted to the Nautanki format by Mumbai-based music composer and theatre director Jafar Manjari. Structured in rural ambience of Madhya Pradesh, the play depicts the struggle of an artist to fulfil his cherished desire of marrying a girl discarded by society.

December 19: Sri Ram Bijay

Sattriya Kendra Gauhati.

The play Sri Ram Bijoy is a glimpse into the epic Ramayana. The play depicts the story of Rama and Lakshmana’s fight against Tadaka.

December 20: Janwai Ji Pawna

Kalangi Group, Pushkar and Fakira Khan Group.

In this musical comedy-drama, a Rajasthani Janwai refuses to visit his sasural.
