Chief Minister Harish Rawat after assuming office today approved the setting up of an Economic Offences Wing under the Department of Home. The focus of the wing would be on tracking property and land-related crimes.

Rawat at a meeting with senior officials of the Police Department at the Bijapur guesthouse here also reviewed the law and order situation in the state.

He said criminals must fear the law. The Police need to be proactive and should be seen acting without fear or favour.

He expressed concern at the rise in land-related crimes and said these should be curbed and criminals arrested. Areas bordering Nepal and Uttar Pradesh required extra vigil, he added.

The Chief Minister told the police to ensure special vigil in sensitive regions for communal harmony. Strict action should be taken against anti-social elements involved in spreading disharmony, he said.

He stressed on developing coordination between the intelligence wings. He assured the department of making all necessary resources available for capacity building.

DGP MA Ganapati, ADGP AK Raturi, RS Meena, Ashok Kumar and Garhwal IGP Sanjay Gunjyal attended the meeting.
