Naddi tey gaddi, which means girl and car, are two highlights of every Punjabi boy’s life. And of Punjabi songs as well! Lancer, Ford, Lamborghini, Bullet, Yamaha are the brands and names that have of late found a generous mention in most of the Punjabi songs. Now, it is the turn of Aston Martin to be added to this category! And this has been made possible by the team of newly released Punjabi song Martin Ride — sung by Girik Aman and rapped by Kuwar Virk. As the two artistes park their ride in Chandigarh to have a heart-to-heart, they share everything ‘unique’ about their track.

Sing along

Girik Aman, singer

This singer from Delhi likes to be on the page 3 of leading dailies or it just happens. Girik is known for songs Saari Wali Girl, featuring Sunny Leone, Black Till and many more. This jazzy singer would want to take his ride to international platforms as and when he is given a choice.

Pehli baar: It is for the first time that you would see Aston Martin in a Punjabi song. This in itself is the USP of the song.

To Martin, with love: Music director Amzee Sandhu had the car in mind while giving music; later he approached me to sing the track and you bet it is an amazing number. About the song: It is a romantic track, which is shot in Dubai in exotic locales. It has R & B, hip-hop flavour and it is just apt for Valentine.

Martin respects girls: In our song, we have given a lot of respect to the girls. How? Well, for it you have to see the video. Also, the video features a top Pakistani model.

Punjabi’s love cars: Indeed they do, it goes without saying. So, we actually sing what the public demands. Bollywood or not: Destiny plays an important role in making things work for us. Sometimes, a good voice can’t make it in Bollywood because destiny isn’t favourable, and at other times, it is. Up next: I have a Hindi track in upcoming film Kill Them Young, the Down South version of the film was nominated for Oscars and I had a song in that too.

Rap & roll

Kuwar Virk, rapper

This young lad started out from Delhi, inspired by Eminem; he just wanted to rap. Meet Kuwar Virk, a rap artist who is making waves in the music scene already.

Praise worthy: People wouldn’t accept a rap artist with a turban, but this wasn’t to be debated. I had to rap and that too with my complete attire. Once I started doing it, people did see how serious and good I was at my work.

I am inspired: By basically Eminem, I do respect Honey Singh and Bohemia because they brought rapping to the country, however I don’t follow them. I have my own style.

Take a deep breath: No it isn’t like rappers have to work on their lung capacity. We take breaths on the given bars just like singers.

A 30-second job: Look what a singer says or conveys through the song in three minutes, we do the same in 30 seconds and that too something, which is relevant and makes sense.

Rap it up: You need to first know what the masses feel about any topic, a current issue and then talk about it. In a song though, a rapper should be able to see the gist of the story!

Next up: A track with Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa
