Wheat arrival in state mandis crosses 50 lakh tonnes

The arrival of wheat in grain markets has crossed 50 lakh tonnes in the state till Tuesday evening.

Within a week, the total arrival is expected to cross 100 lakh tonnes.

Lal Singh, Chairman, Punjab Mandi Board, said of the total wheat arrived in grain markets, 44.97 lakh tonnes had been procured by the government agencies and 1.31 lakh tonnes by private traders.

He said the government agencies had already made a payment of Rs 3,744 crore to farmers against 41.17 lakh tonnes of wheat for which bills were submitted for payment by commission agents to the officials concerned. TNS
