Vilasini Natyam exponent performs

Famous danseuse Purvadhanashree gave a lecture and demonstration of classical dance Vilasini Natyam at The Aryan School here yesterday. The function was conducted under the aegis of Spic Macay.
In ancient times, women dancers attached to temples and royal courts used to perform Vilasini Natyam. The programme began with the lighting of a lamp by Principal of the school B Dasgupta. Thereafter, Purvadhanashree presented Vilasini Natyam in an elegant and professional manner. She narrated tales of Telegu dancers and singers, ‘dev dasis’ dancing in temples and courts to please the lords and the kings. Her every enactment was a perfect blend of various expressions, bhavs and rhythms. Children enjoyed one of the most versatile and communicative dance forms due to her graceful and emotive movements.
She also answered questions from children. She was accompanied by Dr S Vasudevanji on natuvangem, Rajat Prusannaji on flute, V. Shreedhacharji on mridangam and vocalist K. Ventateshwaranji.
The Principal presented a vote of thanks.
