As the Union Public Service Commission declared its results on Saturday, candidates from across the tricity made it to top 250 ranks.

Harmandeep Singh Hans secured all-India rank 101. He wanted to be a police officer like his father, DSP Varinder Singh.

“With this rank, I am going to see my dreams come true,” said Harmandeep. Hans had chosen to be an IPS officer. He did his schooling from Gian Jyoti Public School, Mohali, and mechanical engineering from the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26. He also cleared the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) exam last year.

Sharing his success mantra, Hans said he used to study for eight to 10 hours daily. “My hobby of reading non-fiction books not only helped me in my preparation but also turned out to be my stress buster,” said Hans.

Sohrab Singh Chauhan from Chandigarh has been ranked 244. His optional subjects were commerce and accountancy. He did his schooling from Vivek High School, Chandigarh, and Bhawan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, Chandigarh. He graduated in commerce from Hindu College, New Delhi. Thereafter, he did his MBA (Finance) from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. His parents, KS Chauhan and Dr Amarinder Kaur, are Indian Forest Service (IFS) officers of the Haryana Cadre (1983-batch).

Sartaj K Singh (25) made the city proud by scoring all-India rank 123. Sartaj, a resident of Sector 15, cracked the exam in the first attempt and without any coaching.

“I feel if one follows his dream with passion, he can achieve anything,” said Sartaj. Sartaj wants serve society.

He studied at St John’s High School, Chandigarh, and graduated in law from National Law School, Bangalore.

Sartaj, whose preference would be IAS or IPS, said he owes the success to his family. His father, KS Chahal, is an engineer, while mother, Yadvinder Chahal, is a housewife.
