Patiala, July 1
A splinter group of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), comprising of those who had switched loyalties along with Yogendra Yadav after his expulsion from the party and formed the Swaraj Party, today announced the launch of its Punjab programme.
The party, which is bring run by a 15-member committee, claimed that they had organisational set-up in 13 districts of the state and were planning to contest maximum number of the Assembly seats in Punjab.
Party leader Harmeet Kaur Brar said Yogendra Yadav was in the process of setting up a political party at the national level and once he was through with it, the Swaraj Party would be merged with it. She said in view of the Assembly elections in Punjab in 2017, they had come up with the Swaraj Party, which was the political wing of the Swaraj Abhiyan in Punjab.
Brar said AAP had deviated from the principles for which it had been formed and the Swaraj Abhiyan was a social movement aimed at bringing together those who stood by the principle of ‘Swaraj’.
She claimed that the party was in touch with the suspended AAP MPs of the state and expecting to receive their support in the Assembly elections.
Brar said the party today launched its Punjab programme, under which they would be holding meetings across all constituencies to garner support and expand base.
