Chandigarh, July 22
The case related to the election of the Mohali Mayor has been adjourned to July 29 by the Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana Court following non appearance of Punjab government’s additional advocate general (AAG) before the court.
The hearing was scheduled for today when the court was told that the AAG could not appear for arguments due to some sudden health problem.
While adjourning the case for July 29, the court instructed the Punjab government to ensure presence of the AAG in the next hearing by all means.
The sources added that the AAG in question passed away in the afternoon today.
It is to be noted that the high court has combined Punjab government’s Leave Petition Appeal, challenging the order of the high court’s single bench in which it had allowed petitions against the state government’s move to reserve Mohali Mayor’s post for a woman and Mohali’s Congress municipal councilor Kuljit Singh Bedi, seeking the court’s intervention on conducting the mayor’s election immediately.
