4 gold biscuits seized from Mumbai resident

The Customs Department held an elderly passenger, Narendra Assandas Mirchandani of Mumbai, with four gold biscuits worth Rs 17.4 lakh at the Amritsar airport here today.

He alighted from a Spicejet flight from Dubai at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Ji International Airport here at 9.45am. He had concealed the biscuits in his rectum.

Sanjay Gahlot and Nitin Saini, Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, Customs (preventive) Commissionerate, respectively, said his customs declaration did not include any dutiable goods.

Suspecting his movement and based upon his earlier short visits to Dubai, the customs officials decided to search his luggage. Though there was nothing objectionable in his luggage, the handheld metal detector indicated presence of metal in his rectum.

Later, the officials recovered four gold biscuits (24 carat) weighing around 600 gm which he had brought from Dubai.
