Special lecture on tobacco
A special lecture was delivered on the ill effects of tobacco in Ram Lal Bhasin Public School, Urban Estate, Phase I, Dugri. Dr Tasveen Kaur, a medical officer of SDP Group, also delivered a speech to the students of Classes VI to XI on the occasion. Students were told that tobacco is a highly addictive product which people use in the form of smoking, chewing and sniffing. According to a survey report, Punjab has the highest number of cases related to this than any other state. It directly harms our kidneys, lungs, stomach, salivary glands and mouth and also causes cancer. An individual can also become mentally retarded or physically handicapped. Many pregnant women have also become a prey of it and as a result the newly-born babies are handicapped. Such products have also been banned by the government. The need of the hour is to create awareness among the people. The school president, Balraj Bhasin, and principal Suman Arora advised students to raise their voice and contribute their bit to make the country tobacco-free.
Interactive session
In order to hone teaching skills, a special workshop-cum-interactive session was organised by the management at Ryan International School, Jamalpur, Ludhiana. The resource person, Paarth Ashok Narang, a commercial pilot and an educationalist, encouraged teachers to be receptive to new ideas in the field of education. The interaction between the speaker and teachers was quite informative. Useful techniques were also suggested by the resource person. Principal Gurpal Kaur Anand said, “Such workshop adds new skills and polish the talent of the talented teachers.”
Book Reading Day
Blossoms Convent School observed Book Reading Day to encourage students to widen their knowledge beyond textbooks. Students showed great interest and willingness. Principal Amarjit Kaur Naaz said book reading was helpful in achieving success in life.
Just a minute show
JAM (Just a minute) show was organised at Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar bypass, Ludhiana, for the students of Class VII. The students explained various scientific applications through models and charts. They displayed their talent and showcased their scientific aptitude by highlighting how science was applied in all the tasks we do. Various working models such as telescopes, kaleidoscopes, toy telephones, generators and electromagnets were displayed. Besides, students also discussed traffic rules, uses of fibre, Newton’s disc, food pyramid, flow of heat, electric circuit, anemometer, electrostatic force etc. The principal applauded the efforts of students and teachers. She highlighted that developing scientific aptitude among students was very essential in the present scenario.
NCC cadets carry out cleanliness drive
NCC cadets of BVM, Kitchlu Nagar, contributed their bit to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The cadets were enlightened about hygienic environment, correct usage of fruits and vegetables and other ways of promoting cleanliness. NCC cadets cleaned the corridors, classrooms and playgrounds. Principal Neelam Mittar advised students to show patriotism by putting in 100 per cent efforts for the cleanliness drive and find higher ideals for self evolution. — TNS
