Small steps towards big dreams
The young and vivacious actor Ankita Sharma from Chandigarh, who debuted with Lajwanti, bagged the role of Meher in Zee primetime drama Yeh Vaada Raha. She shares her experience with the Tribune Life+Style.
How did you land in the tinsel world?
I am a classical dancer by profession. I have done many classical shows and have also shot for a short film that was nominated in the Toronto Film Festival. That is when I started looking out for more roles. Lajwanti was my dream role and now I am a part of Yeh Vaada Raha. Having bagged another different role it will add plus points to my acting career.
How do you describe your role?
My character, Meher, is different. It is in complete contrast to my previous roles. She is a bold and modern girl, who is a sister of a rich industrialist.
What is your criterion for choosing roles?
I always consider how much backbone the character has.
How is your equation with you co-stars?
All my co-stars, including Ankush Arora, Sonal Vengurlekar and Rinku Karmakar are amazing friends, companions and most importantly, mentors.
How has life changed after entering the television industry?
After doing Lajwanti, people recognise me and appreciate my work. I feel happy when they want to get pictures clicked with me.
How is Ankita Sharma in real life?
Ankita on-screen and off-screen are poles apart. I am a very simple girl-next-door. When I am not acting, I am working out. I am a fitness freak.
What, in a script, prompts you to take up a role?
The script should have a good storyline for me to be a part of it.
Any Bollywood plans yet?
Not for now. I would like to focus on my show Yeh Vaada Raha.
Besides acting, what keeps you busy?
I love reading books.
