Shifted, ASI ends life in police station

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), who was recently shifted to the Police Lines, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room and firing a shot in his chest on the premises of Murthal police station here in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Before taking the extreme step, ASI Virender wrote a Facebook post about taking his life while alleging that he was upset after he was sent to the Police Lines by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Sonepat, on a false complaint of former municipal councillor Vimal Kishor, Rahul and others.
The Station House Officer and other staff members were present in the police station when the incident took place.
On receiving information, SP Ashwin Shenvi directed DSP Aryan Chaudhary to investigate the case.
A preliminary investigation was conducted into the incident with the help of a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory.
Later, the ASI’s body was sent to the local civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
On the basis of the Facebook post and a statement of the munshi of the police station, a case has been registered against former municipal councillor Vimal Kishor, Rahul and others.
