Dr Jayanti Prasad has brought laurels to Uttarakhand. This Uttarakhand origin scientist has been part of a team of scientists from world over which conducted the gravitational waves experiment recently.

Dr Jayanti Prasad was born in Rudraprayag on June 30, 1977. His father Tulsi Ram Bhatt was a teacher. Dr Jayanti Prasad completed his early education from Government Inter College, Fata, Rudraprayag. He did BSc from Augustmuni Degree College in 1992. Subsequently, he did MSc in physics from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, and later he did PhD from Allahabad University.

Dr Prasad got a postdoctoral degree from the National Centre for Radio Astronomy, Pune. In 2012, he started working with LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC), which is a group of scientists seeking to make the first direct detection of gravitational waves.

Peoples Association of Hill Area Launchers Uttarakhand (PAHAL) president Kamla Pant has expressed happiness at an Uttarakhand origin scientist being part of the gravitational waves experiment.
