Kashmir violence toll reaches 37 as curfew in place on day 6

While curfew continues to be in place for the sixth consecutive day amid the prevailing tension in many parts of Kashmir Valley, a south Kashmir youth succumbed to his injuries in a  hospital here on Thursday morning.

Irfan Ahmad Dar from Kulgam district died at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was admitted on July 11. “It was a critical case of assault,” said a doctor. The family claimed that Irfan was beaten up by security forces during clashes in the area.

With this, the toll in the violence in Kashmir that is on the boil following the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani on Friday has reached 37, including a policeman who was pushed into the Jhelum by a mob at Sangam in Anantnag. 

Meanwhile, normal life continued to remain paralysed as Kashmiri separatists have extended the strike call till Friday. Curfew is being imposed strictly in almost all major towns across Kashmir and in parts of old Srinagar. Mobile internet services and the train service in Kashmir continues to remain suspended for the sixth consecutive day.
