Mohali, March 8
To provide relief to local residents, the authorities have decided to increase the duration of water supply by an hour and a half.
“Now onwards, water will be supplied from 3 am to 10 am instead of till 9 am earlier and from 12.30 pm to 2 pm instead of the earlier 12 noon to 1 pm in the afternoon. The evening water supply timings will be the same -- from 6 pm to 9 pm,” said HPS Dhillon, Executive Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Department.
The authorities claimed that the water pressure had also been increased in the town to address the problem of low pressure on upper floors of houses.
Interestingly, the town will not get extra water to cater to the demand of 25 MGD against the current supply of 13 MGD. “We have devised some strategies to increase supply during the peak hours. We conducted a successful trial for one week recently,” said Dhillon. The town gets 10 MGD of water from the Kajauli waterworks and the rest three MGD of water from tubewells.
Dhillon said the town had got Rs 52 crore under the Centre-sponsored AMRUT scheme. “We are going to start seven tubewells at various sites soon and under the AMRUT scheme, we propose to construct at least six underground supply reservoirs with boosting stations in the coming months. After that, the problem of low pressure will be solved,” said Dhillon.
