One of the two refrigerators at the post-mortem room of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Hospital (KCGMCH) has been defunct for more than a month.

The foul smell of the bodies, which have to be kept out, is not only inconveniencing the residents, but the hospital staff also.

One of the employees said the department should purchase a new refrigerator instead of repairing the old one, as its maintenance cost was about Rs 20,000.

Yogesh Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent, said they had already sent the demand for the repair of the refrigerator. “The new mortuary house has been constructed in the new building of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and it has all facilities for autopsy,” he said. After two-three months, post-mortem would be conducted at the new mortuary, he added.
