Prinkle to represent country

Adding another feather to her cap, 14-year-old local tennis prodigy Prinkle Singh, a trainee of the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA), has been shortlisted to represent India in the ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia final qualifiers to be held in Bangkok from April 27.

She had already hogged the limelight by ensuring her berth in the ITF (U-14) and Under Division–I tennis championship to be held in Bangkok from March 14 to 27.

In the ITF World Junior Tennis Competition Asia final qualifiers, Prinkle will represent the Indian flag along with Mehak Jain and Shivani Amineni. The event is schedule in the last week of April and the Indian side will depart for Bangkok on April 24.

The one-week long event will witness teams from Asia competing under the round robin format. This will be Prinkle’s second trip for this session. Prinkle, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, is studying in Class VIII at Ashiana Public School, Sector 46, here.

She is also a recipient of commendation certificate by the UT Administration. Giving information, Gajendra Singh, director, coaching, CLTA, said Prinkle would represent the city in two back-to-back international tournaments.

“This is a proud moment for the CLTA and a great opportunity for Prinkle to gain some experience ahead of her bright career. The event will witness top seed players of Asia vying for the glittering trophy. I am happy that Prinkle is a trainee of the CLTA” said Gajendra.

She started playing at the age of eleven and this year, her recent performance in the Road to Wimbledon series where she won three back-to-back titles in Chandigarh, Delhi, Kolkata made her to hog limelight in the tennis circuit.

“Its a double delight for me and also a great honour to represent the nation in back-to-back international competitions. I will try to prove myself in front of top seed players and I am working hard day and night to achieve this goal,” said Prinkle.
