Poll officials raid six gun houses

A team of district election officials today raided as many as six gun houses where irregularities were spotted. As one of the gun houses was found to be running with an expired licence, the authorities ordered that this be sealed.

Following the raids, Prem Arms Company was sealed, while notices were issued to other five gun houses, which included Gujral Gun House, Manjit Gun House, Bajwa Gun House, Singh Gun House and Manohar Gun House.

An official spokesman said the licence of Prem Arms Company had expired in 2014 which was not renewed as he did not have the required NOC. But the gun house continued to sell guns and related ammunition. It was learnt that the gun house even got licenced weapons deposited during the elections in gross violations of the norms.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-election officer Ramvir Singh said the authorities found various irregularities in maintaining of records at the five gun houses and they were served with notices.
