The Alchemist Hospital here has landed in a ‘soup’ for allegedly keeping a brain dead patient on ventilator. Anjana Bansal (45) from Barara in Ambala was got admitted to the hospital a few days ago. Her kin alleged that in order to mint money, the hospital authorities didn’t let them know about the death.

The kin gave a complaint against the doctor concerned to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr VK Bansal. The CMO had ordered an inquiry into the incident. A board of doctors conducted the post-mortem at the General Hospital in Sector 6.

As per the complaint, the Alchemist authorities showed the time of death at 2.50 pm on Monday.

A member of the board, wishing anonymity, said, “The death occurred 10 hours before the time of death claimed by the hospital. I will give my opinion to the board.”

“The kin of the patient alleged that the death took place long back but to keep charging money, the patient was kept kept on ventilator. It has been alleged that the relatives were not allowed to see the patient,” said Sub-Inspector Rakesh Rana, Additional SHO of the Sector 5 police station.

He added, “We have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. A case will be lodged after the CMO reports his findings in the incident.”

Sanjeev Kocchar, official spokesperson of the Alchemist, said, “Alchemist has nothing to say. We would believe what the probe reveals.”
