Nine months after completion of a mini- station in Kaithal, red tape is proving to be a hindrance in stoppage of trains.

The new halt will give much respite to locals who have to cover a long distance to reach Kaithal railway station.

Sources said on the persistent demand of local residents, the then MP Naveen Jindal had pursued the matter with then Railway Minister Pawan Bansal. Initially, the railway authorities were reportedly unwilling, but when the MP pursued the matter, it was approved and the work was completed nine months ago at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

“It’s strange that the Congress government got it constructed within a short span of time, but the present BJP government has failed to make it functional even after so many months. If there is a technical problem, the government must rectify it as its earning a bad name for the party,” said a senior officer requesting anonymity.

The new halt is near the bus stand, courts and the administrative complex. The halt has s 400 meter platform with three passages for Karnal and Ambala roads while the third is for Vaishno colony.

“Everyone had hoped that the BJP government would make it functional within a few months but nothing has happened so far,” said a railway officer. DC K M Pandurang said that they were waiting for permission from railway authorities.

“The halt is ready and we are pursuing the matter with senior railway authorities for permission to the station functional,” he said.
