NHPC’s Chamera-II project spent Rs 34 cr on Chamba’s development

The NHPC’s Chamera Power Station-II has played a significant role in the prosperity of Chamba since its inception and has so far spent Rs 34 crore on various development activities in Chamba and its environs.

This was stated by Chief Engineer (in charge) Bikram Singh in an official communiqué issued here yesterday.

He said while meeting the increasing requirement of electricity of the Northern Grid, the power station was providing 12 per cent free power from its total generation capacity to the state government.

He said the widening of roads from Goli to Chamba, Balu, Hardaspura, Karian and Jarangala, construction of schools and plantation in the green belt had also been executed.

Among the major works, the Sheetla Bridge, besides other three bridges, and the OPD block of the local zonal hospital had also been constructed by the power station, he said.

Bikram Singh also claimed that under the corporate social responsibility and community development scheme, Rs 1.85 crore had been spent on various social, educational and health activities for the wellbeing of the people living in the surroundings of the power station.

An ambulance was provided to the District Red Cross Society, besides sewing machines were also distributed to poor women, he added
