Chandigarh, November 5
Not satisfied with the outcome of their talks with Health Minister Anil Vij in Ambala yesterday, the National Health Mission (NHM) Employees Association has announced to continue with its strike.
“When the minister is not ready to give in writing what he has assured us, how can we resume work? We have decided to intensify the agitation and continue it till our demands are met,” said Atul Gijwani, general secretary of the association.
He said the government had terminated nearly 1,500 NHM employees and the association wanted the minister to at least reinstate them. “He was adamant and wanted us to call off the strike first.” Gijwani said several assurances in the past remained unfulfilled. And NHM employees would not fall for the verbal assurance this time. They have been on a statewide strike since October 25, demanding, among other things, regular jobs.
