The Faridkot police today claimed to have arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder case of notorious gangster Sukha Kahlon.

The person arrested was Gurpreet Sekhon (26) of Mudki town in Ferozepur. He is already facing 13 criminal cases in Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda and Chandigarh. IGP Paramraj Singh Umranangal said his eight associates in the Sukha Kahlon case were still absconding.

A trained and qualified flight attendant, Gurpreet Sekhon belongs to a rich family of the Mudki area. His family runs brick kilns. Gurpreet wanted to emerge as the most dreaded gangster in the state after killing Sukha Kahlon, the IGP said.

Gurpreet was arrested from near Chand Baja village on Tuesday evening. His one accomplice, identified as Manvir Singh (alias Mani), was successful in escaping, said the IGP. The police seized a Scorpio car and a .9mm loaded pistol from Gurpreet.

During interrogation, Gurpreet said his eight associates, including Tirath Dhilwan, Rammy Masaana, Neeta Deol, Aslam, Prema Lahoria and Vicky Gounder, had hatched a conspiracy to kill Sukha Kahlon on January 16 at Mudki. To execute their plan, they stole two Toyota Fortuner vehicles from hotels in Moga and Jagraon.

Sukha (27), a sharpshooter and undertrial, was facing around 40 cases across the country, including two murder cases. He was killed near Phagwara while being brought from the Nabha jail to a Jalandhar court for hearing in a murder case on Janaury 21.

After the murder, Gurpreet and his associates escaped to Rajasthan. They had been visiting various states to dodge the police over the past over one month.

Gurpreet Sekhon is a gangster and our teams had been tracking him for about four days, said Faridkot SSP Charanjit Singh.
