NSS camps end on a colourful note

Panjab University’s seven-day NSS camp concluded today with a cultural programme and talks delivered by the guest.

The camp began on January 2. Interaction of volunteers with film-maker Dr Pali Bhupinder was organised ahead of the valedictory session today.

A film produced by one of the volunteers, Puneet, showcasing the activities conducted over the seven-day camp was telecast.

The ceremony also witnessed classical dance, play on superstitions and role of science, giddha and contemporary dance items.

State Liaison Officer Bikram Rana, PU Dean Sciences Prof Rupinder Tewari, PU Director NSS Prof Yograj Angrish, Dr Pali Bhupinder, Dr Jatinder Grover, campus coordinator, were present on the occasion.

Prof Rupinder Tewari shared his firsthand experience and observations about the strengths and weaknesses of education system in India and abroad.

Prof Tewari said the students should opt for subjects and education streams according to their aptitudes.

Bikram Rana charted the history of the NSS in India. Campus coordinator Dr Jatinder Grover presented a brief sketch of the kinds of activities and initiatives undertaken by NSS volunteers on the PU campus.

The students pledged to keep their campus clean and green and also to follow traffic rules.

Volunteers urged to take part in community outreach programmes

The NSS camp, which began at the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 42, here, on January 2, concluded today with a valedictory function.

Dr Nemichand, Assistant Professor in Public Administration and NSS programme officer, welcomed the participants of the NSS camp.

He highlighted the main activities that were carried out by the volunteers during the seven days of the camp.

The volunteers performed cultural programmes, including giddha, bhangara, folk song and a play on first aid.

Mani Badi, principal of the college, in her valedictory speech, urged the volunteers to get involved in community outreach programmes. Prizes were distributed among 35 volunteers who were position holders in poster-making, slogan-writing, debate, mehandi, rangoli and best-out-of-waste competitions.
