City girl Arushi Jain has once again brought laurels by bagging all-India rank (AIR) 5 in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)-2016, the results of which were declared by the CBSE today. Arushi is the tricity topper in NEET. The second spot in the tricity has been bagged by Japnoor Kaur with AIR 7 while the third slot has been bagged by Tanish Modi with AIR 16.
Significantly, the trio is currently studying at AIIMS and had also topped the tricity in the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exam. While Arushi had stood first in the tricity with AIR 10 in the AIIMS entrance, Japnoor was placed second with AIR 32 and Tanish third at 68. Arushi had also stood first in the tricity in the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) entrance exam with AIR 2. The results of the AIIMS and JIPMER entrance exams were declared in June this year.
Daughter of Chander Kiran, a Hindi teacher, and Jaspal Ram, an SDO in the Irrigation Department of Punjab, Arushi is currently studying at AIIMS, New Delhi. “I’m happy,” said Arushi, who topped the medical stream among city government schools with 95.6 per cent marks. Tricity second position holder with rank 7 in NEET-2016, Japnoor Kaur, too, is studying at AIIMS, New Delhi, and wants to do research in genetics. Her secret to success, she says, is never to lose focus from studies. Daughter of PWD employee Manmeet Singh and LIC employee Ravinderjeet Kaur, Japnoor had topped Shishu Niketan School, Sector 43, in the medical stream in the Class XII board exams with 94.4 per cent marks.
Tanish, son of a doctor couple from the city, Dr Manish Modi and Dr Veenu Modi, both working at the PGI, is currently studying at AIIMS, Jodhpur. “I owe my success to my parents,” he says, adding that he intends to follow in the footsteps of one of his parents by either becoming a neurologist like his father or a radiologist like his mother.
Other city students who scored well in NEET-2016 are Lovish Gupta (AIR 29), Ankur Garg (AIR 39), Mantavya (AIR 43), Dixit Walia (AIR 50), Samanyu (AIR 154), Prateek (AIR 230) and Mukund (AIR 236). Two boys from Barnala, who took coaching in the city, scored well too. They are Ritvik Garg (AIR 126) and Dhruv Sood (AIR 129).
