Mohali ISBT to be inaugurated shortly, says Sukhbir Badal

Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today the Mohali ISBT would be inaugurated “very shortly”. 

The Deputy Chief Minister, who had brought along Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to show him the new bus stand project, did not specify a date for the opening.

It is learnt that Gadkari was impressed with the look of the bus terminal. 

The two leaders paid a flying visit to the project site this evening. They stayed there for about five minutes and left soon after seeing the project model.

When asked by The Tribune why the company allotted the ISBT work had missed six project completion deadlines, the Deputy Chief Minsiter evaded the question and said the building had come up beautifully. On being asked when the bus terminal would be inaugurated, he said “very shortly.” 

The company which had been allotted the project had missed six deadlines. The project was started in 2009. 

The company was also served a notice of termination of the agreement under the public-private partnership mode by GMADA due to the delay in its completion. A fine of over Rs 50 crore had been imposed by GMADA for the delay. 

Project costs Rs 700 crore C&C Constructions, the company undertaking the project, said derived from the concept of ‘Aerotropolis’ (mega airports), the Mohali ‘busopolis’ is spread across an area of 7.02 acres and was being executed in three phases. The total cost of the project was Rs 700 crore.
