Marma chikitsa is a healing-touch therapy and an ayurveda-based science. It is dependent on 107 sensitive points on human body for curing various ailments. It was practised by Indian sages in the ancient times even before yoga and other forms of healing practices appeared globally.
Renowned marma chikitsa expert Dr Sunil Joshi stated this at the conclusion of a five-day training programme at Maha Mrityunjay Mission at Kankhal here today. The programme was jointly organised by the Maha Mritunjay Mission and the Vedik Vigyan Pratisthan.
“Everything required for treatment in this therapy is in human body. Patients administer the touch themselves under the direction of a doctor. It is not only easy, but also cost effective. In case of some diseases, patients are given ayurvedic medicines as supplement,” added Dr Joshi, who has written numerous books on marma science and yoga.
He said Maharishi Sushurut had propounded the medical therapy, which had been used to cure people of various ailments without side-effects.
Dr Joshi added that while the western world was looking towards India for availing of benefits of yoga and marma, we were eager to use costly allopathic medicines, the negative impacts of which were well known.
Maha Mandaleshwar Hari Chetnanand Maharaj said the marma therapy is a science, which has been honed by our seers and ayurvedic experts for centuries.
He said one could find references of the marma medical therapy in Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads.
The reference of marma was very well documented in the Ramcharitmanas while in various other ancient scriptures references to marma chikitsa could be found.
Uttarakhand Sanskrit University former Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Aggarwal and former diplomat CM Bhandari said since ancient times, seers had been practising marma chiktisa and ayurveda students should take this legacy forward.
District ayurveda medical officer Dr Vinay Sharma, Mathura Dutt Pandey, Prof Ishwar Bharadwaj, Mahant Kamal Das, Dr KC Bhatt, Dr Mridul Joshi, Gyan Prakash Sharma, Prakash Joshi and Upendra Joshi attended the concluding session.
