Dehradun, October 9
Activists of the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch staged a protest at the District Magistrate’s office here today demanding Gairsain as the permanent capital of the state.
They criticised the successive Congress and BJP governments in the state for their alleged failure to take a firm stand on the issue of the permanent capital.
The protesters demanded that the government should make it clear why it was holding the next Assembly session at Gairsain from November 3 when it was yet to take a decision on declaring it as permanent capital.
Manch president Kamla Pant said the successive state governments had fooled people on the issue. The dream of statehood agitation martyrs was yet to be realised. She demanded that the government should make an announcement in this regard at the forthcoming Cabinet meeting.
