Chandigarh, December 12

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC), on the directions of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, has recommended the names of 25 youth to the screening committee for ticket distribution.

Sources said that after getting a nod from the screening committee, the central election committee would discuss their credentials at a meeting.

With the party focusing on infusing young blood, former Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla, Fatehgarh Sahib MLA Kuljit Nagra, and Gidderbaha MLA and IYC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring are likely to find their way to the first list of candidates.

A senior party leader said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Capt Amarinder Singh had spoken of allotting 35 seats to the youth. However, Warring said the party leadership would take a final call.

Other possible young contenders are: Vikram Chaudhary, a former Punjab Youth Congress president; Angad Singh, son of Nawanshahr MLA Guriqbal Kaur; Satkar Kaur, a leader from Ferozepur (rural); Daman Bajwa, a former Punjab NSUI president; Amanpreet Lali, Punjab Youth Congress president; Sukhwinder Singh Danny, son of a former Congress minister Sardul Singh; and Gurbaz Jatana from Talwandi Sabo.
