Ludhiana: Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organised Prof Gurbir Singh Sarna Memorial Inter-college Competitions today.

The event was organised to mark the memory of Late Prof Gurbir Singh Sarna, general secretary, Guru Nanak Education Trust (Gujarkhan), Gujarkhan Campus and former Professor of Economics, GGN Khalsa College, Civil Lines. The competitions were held in six different fields like poetical recitation, declamation, creative writing, music, it, home science and mass communication. Padmashree Dr Surjit Patar, an eminent writer of international acclaim, was the chief guest for the occasion. Bhupinder Kaur, wife of Dr Surjit Patar, also graced the occasion with her presence along with a number of other distinguished guests from the college governing body and other educational institutions. Dr Patar emphasised the need to conduct such Inter-College Competitions which bring out the hidden talent of the students.

GGNIVS staff and students organised cultural and sports activities. Harshdeep of BBA IInd year, accorded a warm and enthusiastic welcome to the college Director Prof Manjeet Singh Chhabra, who has always been an enormous inspiration to students. While expressing his indebtedness to the Director, Prof Chhabra for facilitating an environment where such events are a norm, Harshdeep revealed that reason for organising such events was to allow the students to rejuvenate themselves and gear up for change in weather. Paramjot and Bhawanpreet from BCom bagged first prize in three-leg race, while Arshdeep of BA and Kiran of B.com won the second place. Vipin and Ramanpreet won first and second slot in hit the wicket.

AKHAND PATH

To pay obeisance to Sardar Bakhtavar Singh Gill, first president of GHG Khalsa College, Akand Path, was held at college campus today. Students from different colleges were invited to participate in the Gurbani-Kirtan competition where a total of eleven teams participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. Amongst the participating teams, Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, bagged the first prize, GHG Khalsa College (boys), Gurusar Sadhar were the first runners-up and GHG Khalsa College (Girls), Gurusar Sadhar were declared second runners up. GHG Khalsa College, Pharmacy, won the consolation prize.

ANNUAL MEETING

The English Literary Society of Government College for Girls held its annual meeting on the college premises in which students exhibited their talent by enacting musical drama, power point presentation, short-films, documentaries on the topic ‘A Thing of Beauty is Joy Forever’. Principal Dr Mohinder Kaur Grewal was the chief guest. She was accorded a warm welcome by Kiranjeet Brar, Head, Department of English. Jasmine mesmerised the audience with a melodious song. Principal Dr Grewal said such competitions help in grooming the overall personality of the students. Dr Grewal admired the students and teachers with her encouraging words and urged the students to continue to work with the same spirit in future as well. She also motivated the students by saying that these type of activities are an integral part of the society as it inculcates the social values among the students.

SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN

The NSS unit and environment club of Gobindgarh Public College, Alour (Khanna) organised a one-day camp. Principal Dr Neena Seth Pajni inaugurated the camp. Addressing the students she said the main motive of this campaign is to make the students aware about environment and its cleanliness. Principal also told the students to keep their home and college clean and green.

GNKCW STUDENTS SHINE

Students of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, brought laurels to the college by securing 18 first divisions in BCA-Semester I examination held in December, 2015. Payal Vadera scored 86.6 per cent marks and stood first in college while Navdeep Saini who scored an aggregate of 84 per cent marks stood second. Meenu Rattan stood third in college by getting 81.1 per cent marks. General secretary of college governing body Gurvinder Singh Sarna and principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman congratulated the students and the members of the faculty for their outstanding achievements.

EXTENSION LECTURE

Department of English of SDP College for Women organised an extension lecture-cum-power point presentation on interview skills and personality development today. Rajnish Chopra, training and placement officer, and Vidhu Gupta, co-ordinator, student’s affairs, Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Ludhiana, were the resource persons. They were accorded a most cordial floral welcome by Dr. Parkash Verma, Dr Geeta Bhandari and Isha Sapra . Students of all streams attended the lecture cum presentation. Rajnish Chopra spoke on the theme Interview Skills. He told the students that getting an interview in the current market is extremely tough and you need to do everything possible to impress and the people. He began his lecture with a difference between bio-data, resume and curricular vitae and said that never mention your weaknesses rather mention areas of improvement in your resume.

WORKSHOP HELD

Students of Department of Journalism of Gujranwala guru Nanak Khalsa College attended one-day workshop on Journalistic writing skills organized by Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, in association with Punjabi Linguistics Association, Patiala at Punjab Agricultural University. Dr Sarabjeet Singh told the students about communication. In his lecture, he mentioned the versatile roles and methods and told that the way we communicate with others determines the quality of our lives. He also added that the words are the most powerful drug ever used by mankind. Students also get to know about verbal and non-verbal communication.

TECH FEST

Students’ Chapter of Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana, organised a national level inter-college tech fest — Technovision. The aim of the competition was to instill the habit of hard work and competitive spirit in the students that will automatically enhance their knowledge and skills to get placements. 300 students accompanied by two faculty members each from various Colleges affiliated to Punjab Technical University, Panjab University, Punjab Agricultural University, Guru Nanak Dev University, Kurukshetra University, Himachal Pradesh University and Central University of Jammu participated in the event. Students competed in software development, web page development, code smith, debugging, C maestros, paper presentation, data hunt and logo designing.

SPORTS FESTIVAL

A two-day annual sports festival was organized at Synetic Business School. Both the faculty and students participated in various events. Dr Ghazala Qadri Management Trusty distributed trophies to the students. She said at Synetic Business School sports is an integral part of academic eco system and everyone is encouraged to participate in sports and cultural activities for holistic development. —TNS
