Untidy newly-constructed executive lodge and retiring room besides unclean platforms, toilets and food tuck shop on the platform No. 1 of the city railway station greeted a team of officials from the Ambala railway division today.
The team of top officials of the Ambala division, headed by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Dinesh Kumar, was here to review preparations for the annual inspection to be conducted by the Northern Railway General Manager on October 3 later this year. They inspected their respective areas during the four-hour-long exercise.
Apparently unsatisfied with the performance of the officials responsible for sanitation at the railway station, Ambala Divisional Commercial Manager Parveen Gaur scolded them and told them that if sanitary conditions at the railway station did not improve before the GM’s visit, they would have to face the music.
During a visit to the executive lodge and retiring room, which were constructed recently, the team found the places stinking and not properly cleaned. The furniture items for the executive lodge were yet to arrive. The bedding in the retiring room was found to be of low quality.
Similarly, the advertisement boards at the platform were in a bad shape and the officials concerned were asked to remove these.
The DRM found that the dome constructed in the area where escalators had been installed was unclean. The officials concerned at the railway station informed him that they were facing problems in cleaning it due to its height.
