Amritsar, August 7
Suspended SAD leader Navdeep Singh Goldy today cancelled the press conference he had called this evening to clear the air on his alleged involvement in the assault on Senior Deputy Mayor Avtar Singh Truckanwala.
In a press release issued under his signature, he said the press meet was cancelled “due to the orders from the party high authorities.”
Goldy was booked under sections 295-A, 332, 353, 34 and 506 of the IPC and sections 25, 7 and 29 of the Arms Act on the basis of a complaint submitted by Truckanwala.
He has been evading arrest since August 4, when the incident occurred at the Zila Parishad office during a meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner. That day, Goldy had stated that he would soon reveal the truth. He claimed that several SAD leaders misguided the police to tarnish his image as he (Goldy) had joined the party after leaving the Congress.
Arun Sharma, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said police parties had been despatched to arrest Goldy.
Meanwhile, Akali leaders led by SAD Amritsar (Urban) president Gurpartap Singh Tikka demanded Goldy’s expulsion from the party.
